Auckland Fish Market operates New Zealand's only 'Dutch auction' for seafood. This system has resulted in many positive changes for the retail and restaurant trade, and consumers alike.

The auction system enables all buyers to have equal access to the daily seafood catch. This means that, even in the quieter winter season, plenty of seafood is available to all trade - and their customers.

The auction typically sells in excess of 20 tonnes of seafood a day, which is provided by around 80 suppliers.

Dewees is part of the statewide California Sea Grant Extension Program, which is administered by the University of California. Sea Grant is a network of 30 university-based programs with facilities and staff in every coastal and Great Lakes state.
